mommy advice....

It is so amazing how every child is so different. Of course, I only have one other child to compare to. So I think back to the way Connor was as a baby and expect this one to go the same way, I guess. Not so! We are having a time with this sweet baby girl and her tummy! Poor little thing just has the worst gas and seems soooo uncomfortable during and after her feedings. I have tried almost every formula and now we are on the nutramigen. I am hoping it will help, but so far it is the same. Of course we use mylicon and have tried gripe water, but nothing seems to help! I just hate that her poor little tummy hurts. She cries a good bit of the time and we pretty much just hold her all the time. Do any of my mommy friends have any other advice for me?? I am hoping she will just outgrow this very soon. She is certainly getting enough of something though, because she weighed 10lbs 10oz today at her 4 week check up!! My girl loves her groceries!!haha

Oh Ash...I'm sorry that little Elliott's tummy hurts. I think Lee and Kerri are the best to respond to this one, their children had some tummy issues too.

I hate to see that she is going through this. It can be so hard to know that your baby girl is hurting and nothing seems to help. For us, Nutramigen was liquid gold and was the only thing that worked. For some reason, doctors don't feel the need to do blood work and test for milk protein allergies, you are just supposed to guess which formula works best. We had to do the guessing game with McCanless and finally, after tries with everything, Nutramigen was the only formula that didn't give her such horrible symptoms. (Powder didn't digest well with her either. We HAD to use liquid.) Thankfully, the staff at MUSC listened to me when I asked for tests on Mary Clare when I suspected a milk protein allergy. Sure enough, she had it too. So, Nutramigen for another year.

Both of my girls adjusted very well to whole milk at one, so I think it has to do with the processing of milk to create formula ??? Not sure of anything but I would have paid millions of $$ in Nutramigen to help them. (I think we came close.)

Try liquid Nutramigen for a few days and hopefully it will get in her system and everything will work out. (Warning: those Nutramigen diapers are something else and will take your breath away.) My girls also have "stubborned bowels"...so let me know if that is the problem and I'll see what tricks I have in my poopie bag! ;)

I so hope she feels better soon!

P.S. I would trash those Milicon drops, even the staff at MUSC said they don't do much! (There are prescription gas drops available...tried that too.)

Peds isn't my specialty but my girls had terrible gas too. I just lived with it with Ella and she outgrew it. We had to use the Similac sensitive on Sophia- and within 2 bottles she was another child! We accidentally used some of the old stuff and she flipped out. She loves milk now. I agree with Kerri- try the liquid Nutramigen- but if it doesn't help I wouldn't keep her on it. Spend the money on your sanity instead. I would be surprised if it was an allergy if her BM's aren't fouled up and if she is gaining appropriate weight. I have several friends who just had to live with it...for several months. I'll be thinking about you! (always willing to babysit... for a few feedings!)

Ash- heres my experience... The only problem Cameron ever had was, he projectile vomited the enfamil with iron(whatever they send you home from hosp with) started him on Prosobee... never a another problem. So when Lacie arrived, we tried what they sent us home with, I think she vomited it to. So she too went on Prosobee Lipil. (not sure of the difference, such a good nurse and mom) However ends up she had colic---the worst ever!!! Cried constantly all the time. Nothing we did could or would make her happy. I found my self putting her in the swing, where I knew she was safe, and going outside so I couldn't hear her. I know that sounds terrible, but I really didn't think one of us was going to make it out alive.
As it turns out, Cameron is allergic to milk and never had any of those issues. Even he had started on whole milk( we didn't find out about the allergy until he was closer to 2yrs old) His stomach was never a problem for us. Lacie isn't allergic to anything.... just a colicy baby. Surpising.... we all survived!!!!!!

Good luck to you! I know what you are going through. Wills mom always said; Jill, you will forget about all this. I really didn't think I would....... but you will! Its tough, but you can do it!
Shes adorable!

Oh Ash, I HATE to hear this! I endured it for 8 months with Cambell and it was horrific. I can only say that we did what Kerri suggested-the ready to feed Nutramigen was our only hope. Our gastroenterologist told us at one point that we could come off of it but Cambell refused to drink anything else!!! Is she going to the bathroom regularly? I often had to add some juice to their diet to help them go. Have you tried Karo syrup? It worked for Parker but not Cambell. Let me know if I can do anything. Hang in there!!!
